Which Green? Sage, Olive, Hunter or Emerald
Green is the color wedding parties moved to when everyone else was still in navy, and the shade carries the whole decision. Sage is soft and dusty and reads almost neutral. Olive leans brown and works like a second navy. Hunter is deep enough to pass for a dark suit at an evening event. Emerald is a statement and knows it.
Sage Green
Sage is the one couples ask for. It photographs well in daylight, it sits beside almost every bridesmaid palette without fighting it, and it does not read as costume on a man who has never worn green. The Sage Green Suit Slim Fit is the full suit, and there are sage green trousers on their own for anyone building a look around a vest.
Olive
Olive is the practical green. There is enough brown in it that it behaves like a neutral, so it works at an autumn wedding and again at a weekend dinner, which is more than most colored suits manage. The Olive Slim Suit is the plain version, the Olive and Brown warms it further, and the Tweed Three Piece is the cold weather answer, vest included.
Hunter, Pistachio and Emerald
Hunter green is dark enough for an evening ceremony and is the shade to choose if you want green without anyone calling it green. Pistachio goes the other way, pale and warm, built for daylight and summer. Emerald arrives as a jacquard tuxedo rather than a suit, which is the right call: at that saturation it belongs to an evening with a dress code.
Green Velvet
Velvet is a winter fabric and green velvet is a December one. The Green Velvet Tuxedo and the Velvet Shawl Lapel are holiday party and New Year garments, not summer ones. Velvet holds light differently from wool, so it looks richer indoors and heavier outdoors.
Green for Weddings and Groomsmen
Green solves a problem other colors create. A wedding party can put the groom in hunter and the groomsmen in sage and the difference reads clearly in photographs without anyone looking like they got the wrong invitation. That is harder in black, where everyone flattens into one shape.
It is also the color where a vest does most of the work. Plenty of parties skip the full suit and put the men in shirtsleeves and a green vest, which is cheaper and better in heat. There are three here: sage, olive and hunter. For how group ordering works, see groomsmen suits, and wedding suits covers the other colors.
What to Wear With Green
White shirt with any of them. A tan or brown shoe with olive and sage, black with hunter and emerald. Skip the green tie: matching a tie to a green suit is the one combination that turns a good color choice into a uniform. A burgundy or rust tie against olive is the pairing that works almost every time.
Jackets, Trousers and Vests on Their Own
The Green Suit Jacket is $149.99 and green suit pants are $79.99, both listed above with the full suits. A green jacket over grey or tan trousers is a sport coat look rather than a suit, and it is the easiest way to wear green if a full green suit is more than you want.
What Comes in the Box
Every full suit and tuxedo here ships as a complete bundle: jacket, pants, shirt, tie and socks. Green suits run from $229.99 to $279, with the tweed three piece at $349. Shipping is free over $99 and exchanges are free.
Getting the Size Right
Our suit size estimator takes height, weight and build and returns a jacket and pant size in about a minute, which beats guessing and beats measuring yourself with a tape. If the size is wrong the exchange costs nothing, which is worth knowing before ordering a color you have not worn before.
